My first phone was a Nokia 3100; one which had a glow-in-the-dark border and looked like a lil devil with horns in the dark. I absolutely loved it. But felt the need to upgrade, what with all the peer pressure and friends flaunting the latest models. Last Dec, I switched to the Nokia5700 XpressMusic. Again I knew I had a great catch. Good OS, nice looks, great features, fantastic music and above all, very few people had it unlike the ubiqitious NSeries which every TDH has these days.
Back to the topic at hand, I was on a market visit, a few weeks ago when it started acting up. The keys got jammed; the OS went haywire and I eventually had to take it to Nokia Care and was told that I'd havta wait for a month to get it back. D-day is yet to arrive; I'm missing my phone and it was a huge stepdown switching to a 1100. I used to listen to the radio a lot while travelling and I'm missing that as well. And the added burden of taking my digicam on every market visit.
I was really proud of the fact that I had over 300 contacts in my phone book. And used to self congratulate myself on the fact that I was in touch with a lot of people, right from my school days. But I started realising one thing. Many people with whom I was really proud to 'be in touch with' never called; not ever once. Not a soul from my school days and just two of my best friends from college. Did people really forget or was everyone tied up with work-promotions and all that crap?? Or on a more alarming/depressing/demotivating note; did it say more about me than the 'firnds' I'm cribbing about?? I couldn't help but wonder...
But on the plus side, I had a few surprises as well. People I never thought would call, actually gave me a buzz. And most of all, I realised that I have a lot of good friends from work. Coz it was my friends from work who first started buzzing me when my calls stopped. Guess, I need jolts like these to keep me grounded in reality...
